The Australian band Drops Of Light was formed in 1983 comprising of the Ruello brothers Lu and Vince and school mate Jerry Picilli. In 1985 they found the drummer Nick Buontempo (real name) means good timing in Italian and released their first single 7 inch with a B side instrumental of the song called Halleys Comet. Launched in April 1986 on the show Good Morning Australia it was a huge success for the band achieiving good airplay with many media and magazine interviews. They were signed to PG Records in Australia and performed strongly around the Sydney circuit supporting and headlining with bands such as the Kevin Borich Express and The Rolling Clones to name a few.
In early 1987 they recorded their first album of original material sounding very powerful and melodic with themes of hope, love and perserverance. Plans to release the first album were turned upside down with a personal tragedy hitting the bass guitarist and vocalist Vince. The album was never released and the band disbanded for a short while until Vince got his act together after the collapse of his marriage to his childhood sweetheart.
From mid 1987 to early 1988 the 2 brothers would gig around Sydney perfecting country rock tunes under the name of The Melody Bros. After a chance meeting in 1988 in a bar Vince was able to give a friend of a film producer a demo which included the song Never Knew The Way. The film producer Tony Bosch liked it so much he got together a film and make up crew and created a mini cinamatic clip for the song.
Never Knew The Way was aired as an Australian Hit Prediction on the show Video Hits in early 1989. It was signed to a world wide distribution deal through ShowBiz Videos and the band gigged for the next 2 years with bass player Chris Luke, and new drummers Andrew Smith and Kozo until Vince and Lu went into their solo music modes in the 90s.
In 1993 Vince working as an Corrective Services clerk produced a rehab charity album recorded in Long Bay Gaol Sydney called the Hope album featuring Captive Edition, Ricky Joan and a couple of numbers by Lu and himself. The album received extensive media coverage Australia wide.
In 1998 Lu and Vince got together again and released the EP 7 track under the band name Pentultima which got played a few times on Australian radio and they performed twice on Channel 31 TV.
Vince continued writing prolifically after this EP and went solo under the name Vinny Pop concentrating on a more counrtry rock feel while Lu was spending his time perfecting '' a wall of sound '' recording technique.
In 2006 Vince signed his anti whale song called Make A Friend Out Of Me to be one of the official anthems of Save The Whales USA now on sale on itunes with proceeds going to their cause.
In 2013 Lu and Vince worked at healing several personal issues and recorded the first single in 15 years called The Answer released under Drops Of Light and now on itunes.
Soon after the recording of the song sad news came that their drummer Nick Buontempo had passed away in May 2013. Musical differences stemming back many years were discarded, Jerry Picilli was called in to assist in recording a couple of new tracks utilising his incredible Jimmy Hendrix style of guitar playing and the never released 1987 album is currently being remastered and hopefully and Godwilling made available for sale on itunes by the end of July 2013 as a tribute to as they say '' a friend and a great drummer ''
